Picture 1: The Iraqi map
This was my map. You are looking from north to south. The coast is to the east, on the left. I used color markers to distinguish my units – the three platoons of my BMP company were in blue, my two BRDM companies were in red. The BRDM companies were of mixed composition, with BRDM-2 (14.5mm HMG), BRMD-2 (AT-3 Sagger ATGM) and BRDM-3 (AT-4 Spigot ATGM) in each company. Company and battalion HQ units moved with one or another of the maneuver platoons.
My general method was to use bounded overwatch as I advanced. My plan was to drive up the two roads rather than cross-country up the middle (as there appeared to be more cover along the roads), but to be prepared to shift my forces as resistance was identified.
The drive up the coast road was by two BMP platoons and the BMP Co HQ (a single ACRV). The drive up the inland road was by both BRDM companies (with the BRDM Co HQ and the Battalion HQ), supported by the third BMP platoon.
